Integration of Network Calculation and Smallworld GIS
A unique, seamless solution is available to Smallworld GIS users for integrating network calculations.
With the configurable Preprocessing Engine for the interfaces, which were developed in close cooperation with the manufacturers, and the Operation Analyser for integrated calculations in the GIS, network planning is optimally supported with the available GIS data.

Interfaces to link Network Calculation Programmes with Smallworld GIS:
Network Calculation fact sheet
The efficiency of network calculation systems can be significantly improved by linking them to geographical information systems (GIS). Particularly the procurement and care of extensive and complex network-related data can be considerably simplified by integrated storage in the GIS. Mettenmeier GmbH has developed integrated network calculations using Smallworld GIS as well as interfaces to network calculation programs from the leading edge of the market.
Integration with Smallworld GIS activates synergetic effects
Extensive technical information on electricity, gas or water supply networks as well as on related secondary installations is held in the GIS. It contains the geographical, the graphic-schematic and the attributive pieces of information including the required topological relations and interrelations associated with the operational resource objects. This complex data represents the core inventory for the use of further specialized data processing applications such as network calculation. Aim of the integration of the GIS with the network calculation program is the activation of synergetic effects which have been unusable up to now. The data transfer interface offers a number of advantages:
- All data required for the calculation is held in the centralized GIS database. This way, data care takes place in a familiar system. In addition to the above, maximum data consistency can be achieved. Diverging update conditions between databases can be avoided.
- Network design can be carried out on the basis of the actual network conditions, and are completely up to date. In addition to this, different design phases can be constantly extended and modified. Design data can be transferred to other specialized systems for the purposes of cost control calculation.
- The interface fully prepares all data required for network calculation, avoiding time-consuming extra work.
- Analysis and presentation tools of the network calculation programs can be directly accessed by the GIS user. In addition to this, the calculation results are available at all times.
- The interfaces can be freely configured, and adapted without the need for any extra programming work.
- Pre-set data selection variations mean that closed and plausible network-related data, for example, can be arranged automatically. Data processing procedures are automated, minimizing the contribution of work conducted by the user.
