PowerFactory Interface for Smallworld GIS

DIgSILENT GmbH and Mettenmeier GmbH are together making available a standardised interface between PowerFactory and Smallworld in order to provide customers with optimal support during network planning and facilities review.

The logical network units for medium- and low-voltage networks represented in Smallworld GIS as well as the necessary, corresponding operating resources for the installations are completely transferred to the PowerFactory program for the electricity network calculation. The integrated data maintenance in the GIS results in a simplification in the procurement and care of the available, extensive network data.

Through the creation of a complete, logically coherent data pool from the GIS, the user of the network calculation program can almost immediately begin his own work, i.e. with only minimal additional work such as the input of missing or supplementary consumption and load data.

The bidirectional database interface (DGS) contained in the PowerFactory is used. This interface can also be used incrementally, in particular with regards to the network areas to be examined as well as with regards to additional data from other systems which contain data. In this way, it is possible to e.g. extend consumption or billing data, measured values from control systems or even data for protection or reliability calculations with data taken over from the GIS.

The interface is fully configured for NRM Electricity (medium and low voltage). For medium voltage, the schematic map or overview map incl. inner life from Smallworld GIS can be used; for low voltage, on the other hand, the geographic map incl. inner life of primary substations, substations etc. can be used.

PowerFactory is also provided with the option for operating in engine or hybrid mode. In this way, a fully GIS-integrated solution can be implemented without needing to forgo the powerful PowerFactory user interface. In hybrid mode, all calculation and output functions available in the PowerFactory software can be used within the GIS application.

The PowerFactory interface from Mettenmeier can be customised to function with other data models or extensions of the data model.
